Yesterday, many large telecom companies have announced their support for a new mobile TV standard, which promises to enable faster implementation and ensure full interoperability.

According to the announcement, this new profile was developed within the BMCF (Broadcast Mobile Convergence Forum) and greatly simplifies the OMA (Open Mobile Alliance), as well as the MBSES (Mobile Broadcast Services Enabler Suite) specification.

Overall, major players include Digitenne, Ericsson, KPN, Nokia, Nokia Siemens Networks, NXP Semiconductors, Sony Ericsson, Telefónica, O2 Europe, T-Mobile, Vodafone and ZTE.

Jouni Kamarainen, director of multimedia for Nokia said in a statement "Nokia strongly welcomes the industry agreement for the end-to-end implementation profile that caters to both DVB-H and 3G solutions."

Kamarainen added "we see a very strong parallel to the early days of development of GSM. This large commitment in the industry for a clear implementation profile will be followed by common test practices that will create a coherent and open market for successful worldwide DVB-H deployments."

"The BMCF implementation profile of the MBSES standard is essential in launching Mobile TV services on a global scale," said Kamarainen.
