American-based Alltel said company revenues increased over $2 billion, a 13 percent jump from 2006's first
quarter.
The company also announced a 44 percent increase in new customers.
Alltel President and CEO Scott Ford said "this was a record-setting quarter for Alltel in both our financial
and operational results."
He added "we are continuing to win new customers in the market, as demonstrated by new records in wireless
revenues, operating income and customer growth."
Net income from current businesses was $225 million, a 34 percent boost from a year ago. Average revenue per
wireless customer was $52.49, up 2 percent from 2006.
Overall, data revenue per customer increased 64 percent from last year, and 14 percent quarter to quarter.
But Ford continued to remain silent about rumors that the company might be prime for a takeover. "If and
when a conclusion is reached, we will notify the public at the appropriate time," he said.
