Palm is planning to launch its first Linux-based smartphone in October, according to reports in Taiwan's Digitimes.
"Palm's new smartphone will be based on the Linux platform developed for consumer devices by Wind River
Systems, a cooperation between the two companies following Palm's launch of its mobile companion, the Foleo,
in the second quarter of this year," said the news report, citing unnamed sources.
The new smartphone will enable software to be easily swapped between the new handsets and the
Foleo companions.
Palm also plans to continue to support Windows Mobile-based handsets as well, a move it has promised the
industry last year.
