T-Mobile announces a new feature that it calls Family Allowances.
The new service lets parents place limits on their children’s mobile phone usage.
It will be available later in August and can be used to control available minutes, text messages and
the amounts of downloads.
T-Mobile didn't say when in August the new feature will be available, but it did say that it's slated
to start at $2 per month and on a limited-time rate.
“Details, including restrictions and service limitations, will be available soon,” T-Mobile said.
The feature also has an “always allowed” option so that children can call specific numbers, such as relatives,
doctors and schools, regardless of parentally allocated minutes.
There also is a feature to block certain numbers from being called and from being received as well.
The company previously announced a similar free feature called Web Guard for blocking access to adult-themed
Web sites.
T-Mobile officials weren't available for further comment.
