Late Friday, IBM said it has expanded its relationship with AT&T, Sprint and other wireless carriers
in providing broader email access to customers who use IBM Lotus Notes and Domino software on their wireless
devices and IMDs (Internet mobile devices).
For their part, AT&T and Sprint have certified its use by their customers IBM's Lotus Notes Traveler software,
which enables wireless replication of Lotus Notes e-mail, calendaring and personal information management (PIM)
data on select smartphones.
The devices from AT&T that have this capability are the AT&T 8525, AT&T Tilt, Moto Q Global, Palm Treo 750,
PantechDuo (Mustang C810), Samsung Blackjack and Samsung Blackjack II (i617).
The devices from Sprint to include it are the HTC Touch, HTC Mogul, Samsung Ace, Palm 700W and the Palm 800W.
IBM said there are more than 140 million Lotus Notes and Domino licensed users worldwide, and that about 95
percent of them are medium and large businesses operating in more than 200 different industries.
IBM's Lotus Notes Traveler software can be loaded with all of the setup information pre-configured, IBM said.
That means it is now "wireless replication-ready" as soon as the customer starts using a new device.
However, standard data usage charges apply, AT&T and Sprint said in a statement.
IBM also announced new services and software for mobile devices that more closely mimic desktop features
formerly found only on a personal computer.
A new business consulting service, called Mobility@Work, will help companies manage the mobile work environment.
