For the third time in less than a week, Apple yesterday released another firmware update for its
problematic new iPhone 3G.
However, the company isn’t saying what exactly the new software does and refuses to comment
any further on the iPhone.
Apple is actually citing only “various bug fixes.”
The new 2.0.2 software is actually a holdover until 2.1 is available in September. By releasing a minor
update now, Apple also could convince customers to not return their iPhones, thereby passing the refund
grace period, some industry observers say...
Data reception on the AT&T 3G network is the problem most often cited with the new smartphone. Industry
experts blame Infineon’s receiving chip for the trouble. Apple has not yet made any comments on the issue,
and stubbornly refuses to divulge any details to the press.
Apple is also offering an extra free sixty days to customers of the iPhone’s Mobile-Me data storage and
synchronization service.
As with the previous 2.0.1. update, users in Apple’s own discussion forums say that whatever the 2.0.2
firmware fixes, 3G reception sure isn’t it, as users continue to face the exact same problems as before.
There are even some new problems such as previously downloaded applications that are no longer working
with yesterday's patch.
Some iPhone users are visibly very irritated and especially frustrated at Apple's silence in the
whole issue.
