Verizon Wireless and Google could be close to announcing a major partnership.
Google would become Verizon’s official mobile search partner.
For its part, Verizon would keep some of the advertising revenue. Google is already a partner of rival
carrier Sprint Nextel. How this potential deal with Verizon will pan out is anybody's guess, in light
of Google's current agreement with Sprint.
Overall, mobile search has been and continue to be a very active application in recent years.
Voice search is also gaining momentum although there are serious problems still to overcome.
However, when the topic of open-source operating systems is concerned, Google and Verizon don't
agree much on anything.
Google leads the Open Handset Alliance while
Verizon supports the LiMo Foundation. Both companies also had many
disagreements about open network access.
To this date, neither Verizon nor Google officials would comment on the possibility of working
together, but there are some industry insiders that really think they will.
