T-Mobile says it has officially launched its MyTouch 3G handset and is marking the occasion with an aerial
spectacle in the sky over San Francisco.
Today, at noon Pacific time (weather and conditions permitting) about 100 skydivers will parachute in
various synchronized formations over the city. The skydivers will be dressed as unique personalities to reflect the
individuality of the myTouch experience.
Denny Post, chief marketing officer for T-Mobile USA said "the new MyTouch 3G handset can be personalized to
wholly reflect your individuality, pride and passion, making it 100 percent you. We’ll help this come to life
from the get-go at our retail stores, where unique sample personas will be displayed to illustrate some of the
many customization options."
The new myTouch 3G handset is made by HTC and sells for $199.99 with a two-year T-Mobile agreement.
The myTouch comes heavy with accessories, including gel skins, device cases and wrist straps and an emphasis
on customization with widgets, icons, wallpapers for the home screen, etc.
T-Mobile’s 3G network is currently available in more than 175 U.S. cities.
A new application within the Android segment is called the AppPack and it offers free applications such as
Sherpa, developed by Geodelic, which learns a user’s likes and dislikes through behavior and user feedback
and recommends retailers, restaurants and specific geo-based attractions.
Additionally, Imeem Mobile streams music customized to the user’s tastes, recommending new songs and artists
based on some songs identified as favorites.
WorldTour puts live webcams from around the world onto the home screen, and Movies by Flixster integrates with
Facebook so users can find friends who also want to see a particular movie or read reviews from friends who have
already seen it.
In the coming weeks, it will be interesting to see how the other wireless carriers adapt and deal with
this new incumbent.
Some mobile industry observers are already saying that the new myTouch 3G could give the iPhone a good
run for its money, since it has many customizable features that even the iPhone dosen't have.
As they say, just when you think you've seen it all, you haven't!
We will keep you posted on this and on other news.
