As it had promised last year, American Airlines is now offering in-flight Wi-Fi Internet access on some of its
domestic flights.
AA's new Internet wireless service is now available on over one-hundred MD-80 aircraft, which is about 66 percent
of the 150 "Go-Go" flights scheduled to be completed by the end of 2009.
The airline has recently branded its new Internet in-flight service "Go-Go".
Daniel Garton, executive vice-president and marketing sales manager for American Airlines says "our goal is
to offer our passengers the opportunity to continue their work or personal business while flying at 37,000 feet
in the sky."
AA says it was one year ago today that it launched its Go-Go in-flight Internet service on 15 Boeing 767-200
aircraft on non stop flights between New York's JFK airport and San Francisco, and between Los Angeles' LAX
airport and Miami, FL.
Garton added "we continue to receive some very positive feedback from passengers who use the new service to
stay connected while in the air."
American Airline's new Go-Go WiFi Internet service is available fleet-wide on AirTran and Virgin America.
Other airlines in the U.S. and Canada using the same service include Delta, United Airlines, U.S. Airways, Air
Canada and NorthWest (through the Delta Air merger).
Overall, Go-Go says the percentage of customers who connected to its service grew 17 percent in 2008.
Both Facebook and Twitter were in the top five of the most accessed sites according to Go-Go, followed closely
by CNN and Bloomberg News in the 6th and 7th position.
It will be interesting to see just how soon other airlines will offer Wi-Fi Internet access on their flights.
One thing is for certain: American Airlines and the others listed above in this news article have now
created a new trend that is bound to be imitated by other large airlines, especially the ones offering
international and overseas flights.
