The offerings, which will include customized applications, will be marketed and sold jointly through both companies' existing sales channels.

"Sybase is a recognized leader in the mobile-middleware space and will be key to Sprint's success for delivering useful innovation to business customers in key industry segments," said Tim Donahue, vice president of enterprise marketing for Sprint Business Solutions.

The companies have previously teamed to offer targeted mobile applications for loan officers and claims adjustors. Both the existing offerings and the new applications are designed for Palm OS or Windows Mobile Pocket PC devices on Sprint's network.

"Sybase's mobile business technology enables customers to extend their custom applications and internal portals to mobile devices, thus delivering critical data to the point of action," said Marty Beard, Sybase's senior vice president of corporate development and marketing.

"Combining our mobile technology with the enhanced Sprint Nationwide PCS network creates simple and affordable ways to improve productivity, increase efficiency and drive sales in an increasingly competitive marketplace."
