Cingular Wireless has decided to extend its original partnership with TruePosition to make
the company's wireless location system available across its network nationwide.
The move is in anticipation to expand Cingular's location technology capabilities.
As part of the newly-signed agreement, Cingular Wireless will extend the coverage of its TruePosition
Finder wireless location feature to cover the former AT&T Wireless territories, which were previously
covered by an AT&T Wireless location system.
The TruePosition system is based on uplink time difference of arrival (U-TDOA) location technology,
the company explained.
According to TruePosition, its wireless location system will assist Cingular Wireless in its efforts
to meet (or exceed) the FCC's e-911 location requirements.
Seperately, Cingular also announced a deal with Brooke Franchise to make voice and data services
available to Brooke's network of more than 700 franchise locations.
The two-year national contract involves the delivery of voice-only handsets as well as access to integrated
voice and data devices, such as the EDGE-based Cingular 8125 Pocket PC, Cingular 2125 SmartPhone and the HP
iPAQ 6500 Pocket PC.
The Brooke contract would also include Cingular's LaptopConnect cards enabled for the company's 3G-based
BroadBandConnect service.
The companies involved didn't reveal any financial terms of any of the agreements.
