According to various reports, Motorola has signed a licensing agreement with TAT, a software and technology company.

Overall, Motorola will use TAT's Cascades user interface framework on some selected handsets.

TAT Cascades is a user interface (UI) technology that enables the creation of a variety of application UIs with less effort and reduced lead times.

According to TAT, the technology also allows for easy customization of the UIs, tailored for different market target segments or device types.

Charlotta Falvin, CEO of TAT said "the user interface has become one of the most critical and strategic differentiators in the mobile industry."

Falvin added "the ability to create attractive and customizable user interfaces with limited efforts will be of great importance to maintain competitiveness in the mobile space going forward."

TAT's U.I. products are in use on more than 150 million devices worldwide.

TAT's products, TAT Cascades and TAT Motion Lab, are built on the company's Kastor platform.

Elizabeth Altman, v.p. of Strategy and Business Development at Motorola "overall, Motorola is committed to enabling great mobile device experiences for our users and the user interface plays an important role in making that happen."

Altman added "TAT Cascades offers flexibility across form factors and input methods and enables rich visual effects. We look forward to leveraging it as one of our UI framework solutions for future products."

Motorola did not say when it expected new handsets using the updated UI to be available.
