A few days ago, Alltel announced the availability of Research In Motion's BlackBerry Pearl 8130 among its current offerings.

Now Alltel is also offering a free mobile shopping service for BlackBerry users.

Alltel is offering BlackBerry customers easy access to products from an expanding list of retailers, including Barnes & Noble, Best Buy, Godiva Chocolatier, and FTD.com.

This has been made possible due to a partnership with mobile commerce provider Digby.

Alltel customers can now access Digby by going to alltel.com/smartphone from their wireless devices and selecting Digby.

Alltel is reportedly the first wireless carrier to launch Digby's mobile shopping service.

"Digby Powered by Alltel" provides customers an interface where they can browse thousands of products.

The Digby catalog is updated daily to keep content fresh and features bestsellers, the hottest music and special promotions for Alltel Wireless customers.

New retailers and products will be added weekly.

David Maddox, director of advanced data solutions for Alltel Wireless said "mobile shopping is an excellent complement to Alltel's portfolio of Wireless Internet solutions that provides our customers more flexibility while on the go."

Maddox added "we believe Digby's high quality and easy-to-use solution offers Alltel customers the best mobile shopping experience available today."
