Cequint’s new City ID application, an enhanced caller ID feature, is being preloaded on wireless handsets
offered by U.S. Cellular.
This brings Cequint’s mobile carrier customers to 3. The company already has deals with Alltel and Verizon Wireless.
Cequint executives describe this as an incredibly simple idea. City ID displays the location, both city and
state where an incoming phone number is registered.
This provides enough information for other wireless users to get an idea on who’s calling them.
Edward Perez, senior director at U.S. Cellular says "unless an incoming caller is saved into a mobile
phone’s address book, subscribers only have a number to try and guess who’s calling them."
"Overall, City ID gives U.S. Cellular subscribers that additional piece of information that helps identify
the caller," added Perez.
Cequint's new tool will be available on the LG UX-585 and the Samsung Delve R-800.
U.S. Cellular subscribers will receive a complimentary fifteen-day trial of the application beginning
with the first incoming call.
Wireless customers can subscribe to City ID for $1.99 per month or a one-time purchase of $34.99 added
directly to their mobile phone bill.
MetroPCS launched a similar service with TargusInfo as its partner less then two months ago.
