Verizon Wireless has released a firmware security patch for its Research In Motion BlackBerry Storm handset.
Already known for its haptic screen, Verizon's new smartphone was launched only on Nov. 28.
Overall, there were first-day activation glitches because of overload on Verizon’s backend, but customers
still lined up at stores around the U.S. to get the new wireless phone.
But it didn’t take too long for customers and reviewers to express disappointment. The BlackBerry Storm was
said to be too slow and its on-screen keyword was apparently very difficult to use for most people.
Verizon's update being offered today certainly helps with the speed issue, users are now reporting. However,
only RIM can change the phone itself, if it wants to that is.
Generally speaking, firmware updates are becoming increasingly common in the smartphone business, where mobile
devices are more like computers than wireless telephones.
And the Storm’s chief rival, the Apple iPhone, to date, has seen more than its share...
