The FCC will soon evaluate Samsung’s new eight-megapixel M-8800 wireless smartphone, also known as the Pixon.
Samsung is hoping for a possible launch in the U.S. as early as March 2009.
A Samsung spokesperson denied that the company is planning to launch the phone in the U.S. But numerous
phone blogs are reporting that AT&T will launch the touchscreen smartphone on its 3G network, possibly with a
name other than Pixon.
It’s not just numerous megapixels that make a camera good or bad. There’s a whole industry behind the scenes
full of chips, lens and software.
The Pixon also includes a 16x digital zoom, dual LED flash, shake reduction, face detection and tagging,
some panorama support and cataloging software that works with an accelerometer.
Not wanting to be left behind, Sony Ericsson announced an 8.1-megapixel device in August.
In other news, AT&T yesterday certified Palm’s Treo Pro for its 3-G network, Palm said Monday in its corporate blog.
