Late yesterday, Wired magazine reported that a leaked internal memo from Walmart suggests that the Apple iPhone smartphone will sell for $197 in the 8 Gb version, and $297 in the 16 Gb version.

In the past few weeks, there's been some speculation about whether Apple would allow Walmart to sell the iPhone for any discount. Walmart has a well-known reputation for offering discounts on just about all the many various products it sells in all its stores.

However, the actual (real) discount for consumers is just $2 per iPhone.

Walmart's leaked internal memo also confirmed the December 28 release date, just two days after the popular Boxing Day.

Last week, AT&T added refurbished iPhone units to its Website, for a $50 discount and with a reduced warranty.

In other Apple news, the company yesterday said CEO Steve Jobs won't be giving his usual keynote address at the upcoming MacWorld Expo, nor will Apple itself exhibit after this year’s event.

Rumors are also mounting as to Steve Jobs' health, since he's been battling pancreatic cancer for the last several months and seems to have lost some weight in the process.
