Globally, Vodafone has said it crossed the 200 million customer mark and that it exceeded third-quarter
forecasts for bringing in new subscribers.
Vodafone says it is now Europe’s biggest mobile phone company and that it has passed a major milestone, signing up
its 200-millionth customer last month.
Vodafone CEO Arun Sarin said, "It took us 15 years to get our first 100 million customers. It took
us five years to get the next 100 million. There is very good momentum in the business."
Vodafone expected to add 7.5 million customers, but surpassed that with 8.7 million net adds.
Verizon Wireless subscribers in the U.S. account for a portion of Vodafone’s proportionate customer base,
as the company owns a 44.4 percent stake in its joint effort with Verizon Communications.
Vodafone also saw its mobile revenue rise 6.1 percent during the last quarter of 2006, with much of
its growth coming from emerging markets such as Egypt, Romania and Turkey.
Overall, this was slightly lower than the predicted 6.2 percent forecasted earlier.
