Yesterday in New York, Nokia demonstrated the flexibility of mobile devices.
Morph, a joint nanotechnology venture between the NRC (Nokia Research Center) and the University of Cambridge, is demonstrating how future
mobile devices might be stretchable and flexible, allowing users to transform their mobile devices into radically
different shapes.
Bob Iannucci, chief technology officer for Nokia said “Nokia Research Center is looking at ways to reinvent
the form and function of mobile devices. Overall, the Morph concept shows what might be possible.”
Nokia demonstrated the ultimate functionality that nanotechnology might be capable of delivering: flexible
materials, transparent electronics and self-cleaning surfaces.
The "Design and the Elastic Mind" exhibit will be on display at MoMA until May 12, 2008.
Professor Mark Welland, head of the University of Cambridge’s Department of Engineering Nanoscience
Group and University Director of Nokia-Cambridge collaboration added: “Developing the Morph concept with
Nokia has provided us with a focus that is both artistically inspirational but, more importantly, sets the
technology agenda for our joint nanoscience research that will stimulate our future work together.”
