Today, Sprint has announced its anticipated monthly unlimited plan at $100 a month.

With its new package the carrier is offering: unlimited calling, data, text, e-mail, Web-surfing, Sprint TV, Sprint Music, GPS Navigation, Direct Connect and Group Connect.

Called the "Simply Everything" plan, it will be available to new and existing customers beginning March 1st.

Existing customers can sign up for the new plan without having to extend their contract.

Dan Hesse, Sprint's CEO said in a statement “now, wireless is about much more than just voice, it's about data services, texting, e-mail, video, pictures, music, navigation, surfing the Web and a lot more."

Hesse added "major carriers have good voice networks. Our network is about more than voice and more than just being the largest wireless data network. Customers want these applications, but without any complexity and without having to worry about their monthly bill.”

Meanwhile, Sprint Nextel has posted big quarterly losses due partly to writing down most of the remaining value of its Nextel acquisition and continued subscriber losses.

The struggling phone and wireless carrier posted a loss of $29.5 billion, or $10.36 a share, compared with a profit of $261 million, or 9 cents a share, for the same period in 2007.

Not including the Nextel write-down and other one-time charges, Sprint said it earned 21 cents per share before amortization. Revenue fell from $10.44 billion a year ago to $9.8 billion.

Although Sprint lost 683,000 monthly subscribers during the quarter, it posted net customer losses of 108,000, due to increases at its Boost prepaid services. For the quarter postpaid churn remained steady at 2.3 percent, and average revenue per user dropped to $58.

Sprint also offers a deal for family plans, offering a $5 incremental discount for each additional line and up to five lines on the same bill.

Hesse, hired to replace Gary Forsee and hopefully to turn the company’s fortunes around, said “we plan to share some of our initiatives for improving the customer experience and operations next quarter."

He added "However, strategic assessments and some changes down the road may take longer to complete."
