Late last night, Ditech Networks has announced the launch of M-Stage, its new network-based suite of
applications for mobile and wireless carriers that allows the Web to become part of a two-way voice
conversation.
M-Stage enables mobile phone subscribers to use their voice as well as their thumbs to interact with Internet
applications like social networking sites and IM (instant messaging) during a phone call.
Todd Simpson, Ditech CEO says "we allow Internet services to access the voice stream in real-time.”
Through its open API (application programmable interface), M-Stage
allows Internet services developers to effectively integrate voice into applications designed specifically for the
platform, enabling mobile providers to boost revenue opportunities for M-Stage-enabled networks.
Simpson says the open API leaves the possibilities for the technology wide open. “We actually believe that Internet
developers will ramp up the applications. That’s the beauty of our open API,” he says.
Overall, mStage can be engaged with one word spoken in the midst of a phone call, instantly connecting
wireless callers with the Internet and where they can interact in a variety of ways, including checking e-mail,
communicating with social sites and social networks, researching
local entertainment or accessing real-time traffic information.
Ditech’s announcement comes at a time when wireless carriers and mobile service providers are increasingly
dependent on data for additional revenue.
Ditech hopes its new technology will place renewed emphasis on voice as a revenue driver by increasing call time
and boosting overall traffic across mobile networks.
