Feb. 25, 2009

Antenna Software has launched its new AMP mobile instant messaging (IM) solution built specifically for the mobile workforce.

Designed as a reusable application component, AMP instant messaging can be integrated with voice, e-mail and other mobile apps, or deployed as a standalone feature.

AMP can run on BlackBerry, Windows Mobile and iPhone devices.

Despite the many enterprise and consumer-grade solutions available, organizations have hesitated to fully adopt mobile instant messaging due to security, support and management concerns.

Instead, mobile workers rely heavily on e-mail, text messaging and traditional phone calls.

Because IM offers real-time status information and asynchronous communications, it can be more efficient than simple phone calls and certainly more responsive than e-mails.

Antenna Software said that its new AMP IM solution solves the problem of younger employees, familiar with IM communication, installing unsecure IM programs on their work phones.

Nick Jones, v.p. and analyst at Gartner says "as mobile user interfaces improve in handling the inherent presence capabilities of instant messaging, mobile instant messaging will finally become the type of popular application envisioned many years ago."
