Verizon Wireless announces a new lineup of cell phones that can be
pinpointed with its new Chaperone family locator service.
Previously only available on the LG Migo phone, the new phones will
provide more appeal to older children and teenagers.
Verizon's new LG phones will provide parents with more peace of mind.
The added phones include some of Verizon Wireless’ higher-end models,
such as the LG Chocolate and Motorola KRZR K 1-M, as well as mid-tier handsets
like the LG 3450L and LG VX8300.
Verizon's new Chaperone service uses GPS (global positioning system) data
to pinpoint the exact position of the phones and enables parents to set
parameters within which the mobile phones and the children are allowed
to travel.
Overall, parents can set up alerts through a web site that can notify
them when their child leaves the predetermined safe zone.
The new service is only available to Family Share Plan subscribers and
ranges in price from $9.99 to $19.99 per month, depending on which features
are selected.
Jim Straight, v.p. of wireless Internet and multimedia services for
Verizon Wireless says "Chaperone helps busy families stay connected
throughout the day, while providing parents with a valuable tool for
staying in contact with their children."
Straight added "now, with the service available on additional handsets,
it's perfect for families that want to stay connected with their children,
while offering them peace of mind.”
