Trying to emulate Google, Yahoo has announced new plans to launch its own mobile platform, allowing
outside programmers to develop mobile applications.
Yahoo is to develop a toolkit over the next few weeks, which will include a more robust SDK (software
development kit) tools and support.
Mobile developers will be able to build the applications using Yahoo's own X-HTML based programming language.
The search company also announced plans to redesign its mobile home pages so viewers can more easily access
mobile content.
Users will also be allowed to customize what information they wish to view on their handsets.
Yahoo is also upgrading its Mobile Go application, and it will now allow advertising.
Yahoo's Mobile Go ver. 2.0 currently runs on more than 250 mobile phones.
At launch, Yahoo Go 3.0 will support roughly 30 devices, but the company expects to expand that quickly
to hundreds of devices worldwide.
Mobile users of either service will be able to access new mobile applications developed by third party
developers.
