At CES 2010, Palm not only unveiled new Plus Versions of its Palm Pre and Pixie for Verizon Wireless' network,
but it also launched its new Palm Web OS developer program.
The handset maker also announced 3D gaming as well on its new platform.
Like some of the other many OS developer programs from other phone makers, Palm developers will receive a
70/30 split of gross revenues generated through sales.
The membership-based program has a $99 annual fee, which is waived for developers who opt to distribute open
source Palm Web OS apps on the Internet.
Applications distributed in the Palm App Catalog will be subject to review by Palm, and developers need to pay
a per-application fee of $50 as well.
Palm says that any developer can now go to the Palm Developer Center and start developing and distributing
applications for Web OS devices.
Palm showcased its developer program and tools at the CES Show and announced a $1 million developer Hot Apps
bonus program.
Additionally, Palm introduced several graphics-intense game titles from the likes of EA Mobile, Gameloft,
Glu Mobile and Laminar Research. The games are available now in the Palm App Catalog for Palm Pre customers.
On top of all that, Palm demonstrated Flash content as well on a Palm Pre and expects a free Adobe Flash
Player 10.1 plug-in to be posted to the Palm App Catalog in March or April.
Palm says it expects Web OS to be one of the first mobile platforms to support the full Flash Player in the
Web browser.
Lately, almost all wireless handset makers have been jumping on the apps and Web Store bandwagon. Like
Palm, other vendors are also launching reseller and Web OS developer programs as well.
And there's almost no better place to launch such new programs than at the Annual CES Show in Vegas.
