Cingular Wireless has become a member of the Open Mobile Terminal Platform (OMTP).

The OMTP makes recommendations to the handset industry on security, hardware, operating systems and browsers.

Existing network operator members of OMTP include Vodafone Group plc, Orange SA, Hutchison 3G, KPN Mobile, SK Telecom, Telecom Italia, Telefonica SA, Telenor and T-Mobile.

Other members include Trango Systems Inc., Certicom Inc., Jaluna, Access Co. Ltd. and Openwave Systems Inc.

In the past year the OMTP has published 11 recommendations.
