Nokia Siemens is reporting that it has signed a network expansion agreement worth about $900 million with India's Bharti
Airtel.
Nokia's transaction covers Airtel's mobile, fixed and intelligent network platforms.
From 2007 through to 2009, Nokia Siemens Networks will expand Airtel's networks and over the next three
years it will expand its international calling card prepaid services.
The deal includes network planning, implementation and project management, logistics, materials and system
integration for the base station sites.
The overall expansion will enable Airtel to rapidly expand to rural India and significantly boost its network
capacity.
Bharti Airtel has about 43 million customers in India.
Nokia Siemens Networks also named Sue Spradley head of its North American region. Spradley replaces Mark Louison,
who was named president of Nokia earlier in 2007.
On July 2, Spradley began her new position at Nokia Siemens Networks in Irving, CA. Most recently,
Spradley was the president of Nortel's Global Services and Operations segment.
Nokia Siemens North American facility houses the company's research and development and corporate functions.
