Overall, a good percentage of Americans still believe wireline phones are the most important communications product in their home.

This is despite the growing reliance on wireless phones as a primary communications device among an increasing number of households.

Thirty-seven percent of respondents to a new study by TNS Telecoms indicated their wireline phone is the most important communications product in their home.

Wireless phones and high-speed Internet tied for second at 27 percent each. Other survey choices included entertainment options like DVR and HDTV, gaming products and music devices.

Wireline phones ranked highest among all age groups when combined, said the report.

However, high-speed Internet connections and wireless phones were favored more than wireline phones among respondents in the under-45 age categories.

In addition, the survey found the average household spends $60.53 on wireless phone service, up 6 percent from the previous quarter.
