BelAir Networks has launched a new SLA (Service Level Agreement) guarantee for municipal networks using
its technology.
The move was in response to QoS (Quality of Service) issues in city-wide Wi-Fi deployments, both in the
U.S. and Canada.
Located in Canada, BelAir Networks said it will certify specific design specifications for outdoor networks,
and if performance or coverage fails to meet those requirements once the network is complete, BelAir will provide
additional access points free of charge.
However, BelAir cannot and will not guarantee that the service provider or network installer also will offer
their services for free.
BelAir cited customer disappointments with early municipal Wi-Fi deployments, saying that the networks often
delivered inconsistent or poor performance, coverage and reliability.
Overall, BelAir hopes to reverse this with its new SLA guarantee.
Jim Freeze, senior v.p. of marketing and alliances at BelAir Networks said in a statement "with BelAir
deployments in the field delivering tested performance of up to 8 Mbps, we believe it's time to take the
industry to a new level."
Freeze also added "we see SLAs as an emerging requirement for the long-term success of the "muni wireless mesh".
Through BelAir Networks' Certified Network Design Program, municipalities can now design and deploy wireless networks
that meet their business model requirements including guaranteed performance and network coverage."
BelAir Networks has deployed more than 250 next-generation wireless networks worldwide, including Minneapolis,
London and Toronto, Ontario.
