There are many advantages to Mobile VoIP (voice over IP), both for users as well as wireless carriers.
Both stand to gain a lot from the technology.
A monthly Mob VoIP plan would mean that customers make more and longer international phone calls on
their cells using VoIP.
The growing trend to Mobile VoIP already has started in Singapore, where two mobile operators have seen
a large increase in the amount of international calls after launching their respective mobile VoIP service
just three months ago.
The biggest potential money savings for customers will be making mobile VoIP calls when abroad, when
bypassing very costly international roaming charges.
As more people are attracted to low cost international
calls and monthly flat fee setups, wireless operators are set to increase their revenue thanks to these low
monthly contributions.
A mobile VoIP strategy adopted early on is a good investment for the future. According to ABI Research,
SIP services (Session Initiation Protocol) used in Internet telephone calls are expected to generate some
$152 billion in less than four years from now.
Mobile VoIP will quickly develop into a new standard and come to rule the world’s telecommunications markets,
according to another study by ABI Research.
Furthermore, ABI also expects that about fifty percent of all telecom users will use
multiple devices and services, including Internet telephony in the future.
Such forecasts and the current trends for all things Mobile VoIP is starting to look interesting for
revenue growth for early adopters among mobile wireless operators.
For market participants and wireless service providers, the key to success is to offer a service that
is easy to use, while reasonably priced at the same time. It also has to be easy for consumers to make
Internet calls to both landline and mobile numbers using Wi-Fi, 3G or GPRS connectivity, as well as
rerouting incoming calls to a mobile phone.
Mobile VoIP phone carriers are set to increase their revenue base from providing these services as the
technology continues to evolve and application developers focus their efforts on VoIP-enabled services.
