According to a new survey recently made by Forrester Research, iPhone users are wealthier and better-educated
than owners of other smartphones.
Forrester also added that iPhone owners are younger than other mobile phone users and smartphone users.
In terms of age, they are in their late teens to late 20s, while smartphoners are in their late 20s and 30s.
The survey also reveals that iPhone users pay more for their service than others, an average of $87 a month,
compared with a smartphoner's $76.
Additionally, their employers are marginally less likely to help pay for the phone: 24 per cent versus
the smartphone-supplying boss' 28 per cent.
But with about 67.2 per cent of iPhone owners making $72,500 or more a year, they can certainly afford it.
As can very well be expected, iPhone owners also actively use their unit for more than mere voice
communications. The average iPhone owner is over twice as likely to be a weekly texter than a user of an
"uneducated" phone.
The iPhone's lead is equally striking in e-mail and Web access as well, since the typical iPhoner is
nearly twice as likely to access the Internet than, say, a BlackBerrian, Palmer, or Windows Mobilian.
Interestingly, iPhone owners are also more likely to leave their laptops at work - apparently they're
satisfied with email access from their iPhones.
But whether the newly released Palm Pre or the rise of the Android will change the iPhone's Internet access
dominance is still unknown for now. According to AppleInsider, the first phase of Forrester's survey was
conducted over 6 months ago, when the iPhone was still fairly new.
To help compensate for the changing demographics of all types of mobile phone users, Forrester plans to
update its statistics rating system later in 2009.
