Cingular Wireless, an AT&T subsidiary, has expanded its presence in North Carolina, South Carolina and
Massachusetts.
The expansion is part of Cingular's $6 billion network improvement project that was planned in June 2006.
On average, more than two-hundred new mobile phone transmitter sites have significantly increased Cingular’s
coverage.
Cingular's expanded network capacity across the western portions of North Carolina and South Carolina actually
began in late 2006.
In particular, the Saluda, Newberry and Monticello regions now have 27 new sites operating.
"For Cingular Wireless, 2005 and 2006 were unprecedented. We invested almost $1.3 billion nationwide to
deliver a high-quality and reliable wireless experience to all our customers here," said Alison Hall, v.p. and
general manager for the company's Carolinas market.
Cingular also pushed further into Massachusetts, specifically along Route 9, Hammond Pond Parkway and the
area around Chestnut Hill Malls, in Newton, MA.
This mobile phone site is one of the more than 95 sites that Cingular built in New England last year.
“Overall, we have significantly increased the number of mobile sites for our customers in the state by nearly
80 percent in the last two years," said Steve Krom, v.p. and GM of AT&T's wireless operations in New England.
