Alereon, a semiconductor producer using UWB (ultrawideband) for mobile Wi-Media and solutions based on Certified Wireless USB, is partnering with leading digital camera vendors.

Alereon's goal is to demonstrate new wireless USB applications for the digital photography market.

Through such collaborations, Alereon will showcase rapid wireless transmission of photos from a digital camera to a PC, camera-to-printer, camera-to-camera and more.

With its Wireless-on-the-Go solution, Alereon offers embedded device-to-device connectivity via Certified Wireless USB from USB-Implementers.

Wireless-on-the-Go enables users to wirelessly connect two handheld devices, such as digital cameras or camera phones, and to swap data files over a short distance without consuming large amounts of battery life.

Alereon's news solutions use limited SoC processing power and work with virtually any operating system, including Windows Mobile 5 for phones, NetBSD for printers, microITRON for cameras and embedded Linux for HDTVs.

Eric Broockman, Alereon's CEO said "with our production-ready solutions offering the same easy-to-use, plug-and-play model as standard USB, including speeds up to 480 Mbps."

He added "additionally, our new system offers ten times the power efficiency of Wi-Fi, Alereon is proving to be the Wireless USB vendor of choice for digital cameras and other personal technology and mobile communications device manufacturers."
