Verizon Wireless shows its preference of Alcatel-Lucent's network infrastructure solutions with a new
3-year agreement.
Under the new contract, Alcatel-Lucent will continue to support Verizon's existing network, while enabling
the carrier to switch to an all-IP network.
By deploying components of Alcatel-Lucent's IMS solution, Verizon hopes to offer new multimedia services such
as VoIP (Voice over IP), Push-to-X and mobile video telephony.
Alcatel-Lucent's solution should enable these services to work across different carriers' networks.
As part of the agreement, Alcatel-Lucent also will enable Verizon Wireless to increase the coverage and
capacity of its wide-area BroadbandAccess data network, as well as enhance Verizon's existing CDMA2000 1X network.
Dick Lynch, chief technology officer and executive v.p. of Verizon Wireless said "with strong support from
Alcatel-Lucent, we at Verizon Wireless provide our customers with the highest quality and most advanced mobile
network in the U.S."
Lynch added "we will deliver value over fully interoperable IP-services that enhance the lifestyles of our
customers-by offering multimedia services that combine voice, data, and video capabilities."
The contract is expected to be worth about $6 billion.
Alcatel-Lucent is already Verizon Wireless's primary supplier of network infrastructure and support services.
