Skype will soon be available on the iPhone

Skype is apparently planning to extend the reach of its service to Apple's iPhone.

The idea makes sense if you need to call internationally and if it enables you to bypass long distance charges. We all know how those can add up fast, iPhone or not...

However it may or may not be worth it based on the sound quality.

Skype is expected some time this week to release an announcement regarding the iPhone application.

Some observers are now saying that Skype has delayed the release to ensure the sound quality is crystal clear on the iPhone.

This feature will be a great way to not be tied down to your computer all the time. For the past two years, Skype has typically been used on laptops for voice conversations.

With the new feature, if someone doesn’t have his laptop available, they can still queue up Skype on their iPhone for easy talking.

The tech support setup for this should be as easy as the computer setup, Skype claims.

The company is still competing for Gtalk which some say is the most widely used computer chat program. Others disagree.

But Gtalk has had some serious issues on the iPhone and this could be the perfect opportunity for Skype to take over Google's Gtalk application.
