Mobile phone maker Nokia is now the first manufacturer to license the MMP (Moore Microprocessor Patent) technology
from the TPL Group.
Overall, MMP technology consists of a new patent package created by privately-held TPL Group.
It is also jointly-owned by Patriot Scientific. The technology includes seven U.S. patents, as well as
their European and Japanese counterparts, which Patriot and The TPL Group have said they consider fundamental
to the overall design of modern microprocessors, microcontrollers and system-on-chip devices.
The MMP acronym is named after Charles Moore, chief technology officer of The TPL Group, who is credited
with inventing the Forth programming language.
Approximately sixteen other international manufacturers have acquired a license for the technology,
including processor giants Intel and American Micro Devices.
So far, Nokia hasn't announced how it plans to use the technology.
Financial arrangements of the deal weren't disclosed.
