Working to greatly improve security in today's mobile segment, SMobile Systems says it has entered into
a partnership agreement with Vodafone D2 to equip Vodafone's subscribers in Germany with anti-virus and
anti-spam protection software on their mobile devices.
The product is branded "Security" and is powered by SMobile Systems.
According to Neil Book, president of SMobile, the company's security application is available as a download
through the Vodafone Live Portal, and is sold as a premium service to its end-users.
The plan is to have the software pre-installed on two Symbian and two Windows Mobile devices, he says.
SMobile hopes to work with more Vodafone entities. "From my perspective, this is a first step in broadening
the relationship," Book said.
SMobile's security application, which protects the device from viruses, malware and mail spam, works on
Symbian 2.0 and 3.0 platforms, which cover most Symbian devices on the market.
