Yesterday, AIS (Advanced Info Services) said it was testing Motorola's mobile WiMAX
solutions using its WiMAX Access Point-400 platform.
The wireless operator is evaluating the performance of real-world applications over
mobile WiMAX networks.
AIS is also comparing customer usage models in cities, suburban and in various rural areas
of the markets where it is present.
Company CEO Vikrom Sriprataks said “instead of focusing only on technology features, we
evaluate how customers apply wireless applications over Wi-MAX network in everyday life.”
He added “the results have been outstanding, and it gives us an insight into how we can
offer new and improved wireless services through WiMAX.”
During all its trials, AIS put the WiMAX technology through various paces with applications
including substitution of phone line, content delivery platform and high-speed Internet connections.
Overall, AIS considers WiMAX an effective replacement for ADSL in cities and suburban areas.
The phone carrier began trials in January and February of this year using Motorola’s WiMAX
platform in Bangkok and Lamlukka.
