Canadian wireless service provider Shaw Communications has officially announced its intention to launch a
next generation mobile service.
Shaw's new service will provide its wireless customers with a 4-part offering.
Recently, the company announced that it will invest about $100 million to upgrade its network this year and
it anticipates a wireless launch for October or November 2011.
Peter Bissonnette, Shaw Communications' CEO says that "overall, next generation wireless services encompasses
a lot more than just smartphones. We're rapidly approaching wireless services in an innovative, leading-edge
way that will allow for a wide variety of excitingly new mobile opportunities in and out-of-home for all our
wireless users."
Shaw says it will now focus more on hiring wireless professionals in its engineering and IT departments, giving
them the opportunity to design and build new wireless devices that will propel the company even further.
Shaw Communications is a diversified wireless service provider and cable TV company whose core business is
offering broadband cable service, high-speed Internet, digital phone, telecommunications services (through Shaw
Business Solutions) and satellite direct-to-home services (through Shaw Direct).
Shaw serves about 3.4 million customers in Canada, including over 1.7 million Internet and 950,000 digital
phone customers through a network which comprises over 620,000 kilometres of fibre.
Shaw is traded on the Toronto and New York stock exchanges and is included in the S&P and TSX 60 Index.
