KT Corp. successfully demonstrated new wireless broadband technology it hopes to deliver to millions of subscribers by 2010.

Korea's largest fixed-line operator unveiled mobile WiMAX technology for delegates from the WiMAX Forum.

The technology is often called WiBro in Korea. KT aims to attract as many as four million users with the service, which is slated to launch in June 2006.

The company showcased the technology through a series of applications including text and multimedia messaging, location-based services, wireless video and mobile Internet voice service.

"KT represents a company that has pushed ahead and launched the world's first mobile broadband network that is based on the soon-to-be-ratified IEEE 802.16e standard, which is as the core of mobile WiMAX," said Ron Resnick, president of the forum.

"Clearly, those of us in attendance of this event have experienced first-hand the types of video, voice and data applications that can be delivered to mobile devices."
