Alvarion Ltd. is supplying its BreezeMAX 3500 system to France Telecom affiliate Ikatel, which offers broadband data service in Mali.

The deployment includes hundreds of customer premise equipment based on Intel's WiMAX chip that will create a WiMAX network for residential and business users in the capital city of Bamako, the company said.

Alvarion's BreezeMAX platform is a WiMAX platform that uses OFDM technology.

This deployment represents the first deployment in Africa of the BreezeMAX PRO CPE with the Intel PRO/Wireless 5116 WiMAX chip, said the company.

The operator expects to deploy the network by the end of the year.
