Today, digital map provider Tele Atlas is launching Urban Maps, an application that helps pedestrians
simply navigate through a city.
Urban Maps integrate Tele Atlas’ 2D city maps, which show building footprints, sidewalks, town blocks, parks
and railway infrastructure along with 2D landmarks.
The company has prepared maps for roughly 120 cities globally, including Amsterdam, Beijing, Berlin, Boston,
London, New York, Paris, San Francisco, Shanghai, Singapore, Toronto and Washington D.C.
According to Rick Temmink, v.p. of global product management, the pedestrian mapping is a natural extension
of the mobile phone map usage that has taken off in the last eighteen months.
Tele Atlas’ customers “can leverage advanced visual content and pedestrian-specific map information to
develop next-generation mobile and LBS applications for their end users,” Temmink added.
