J.D. Power and Associates said late yesterday that Apple’s iPhone is being well-received among
business smartphone users.
Overall, the iPhone fared better than BlackBerry maker Research In Motion and even better than Samsung,
which took second and third place respectively in the 2008 Business Wireless Smartphone Customer Satisfaction
Study.
J.D. Power's market study examines ease of operation, operating system, physical design, handset features
and the life of the batteries.
HTC, Motorola and Palm took fourth, fifth and sixth place.
J.D. analyst Kirk Parsons said “last year, with the introduction of the iPhone, Apple has clearly differentiated
itself from the competition in areas that are most important to business smartphone users. The latest iPhone
3G version added Microsoft Exchange support and, as its name suggests, 3G Internet access."
About 27 percent of all business smartphone users still experience many software glitches, but that’s to be
expected as smartphones behave more like computers and less like simple telephones, Parsons added.
The study of 1,388 people also found that, of the 69 percent of business smartphone users that own a hands-free
headset, only 23.3 percent feel a touch screen is important, and another 34.1 percent download aftermarket software
for their iPhone.
