Meet the T-Mobile Cameo: a picture frame with its own cellular modem so it can receive photos directly
from wireless phones.
T-Mobile has had develop Cameo’s technology by Parrot Inc. in 2006.
T-Mobile is selling Cameo to U.S. customers for $100 plus a $10 monthly fee. The device already received
a positive review from the Associated Press.
The picture frame – a 720 x 480 pixel LCD – gives owners the option of accepting or declining the photos
it receives, along with the option to always accept photos from specific senders.
The frame can mount in landscape or portrait modes, can play slide shows, and has a Micro-SD card slot and
USB slot.
Wireless LCDs that act as picture frames aren’t new, but most only have a Wi-Fi connection.
T-Mobile says its Cameo unit is the first frame with a cellular connection, and is a unique way for a wireless carrier to
boost its subscribership without actually adding new human subscribers.
Mobile industry analysts say such products will become increasingly popular next year because of decreasing
margins and subscriber saturation and higher 'customer churn' rates in the mobile voice market.
