Apple has launched its new iPhone version 2.2 software, giving the smartphone a whole slew of new features.
The news comes at exactly the same time as its rival Research In Motion’s launch of its new BlackBerry Storm.
However, and most importantly, Apple says its new 2.2 software means fewer dropped calls, the ability to turn
off auto-correction in the on-screen keyboard, greatly improved sound quality in voicemail and more stability
in the Safari browser.
There are also many changes that apply to the iPhone's Mail and Google Maps applications.
In Mail, customers get bug fixes for scheduled fetching and for HTML formatting. In Google Maps, additions
include street view, public transit and walking directions.
The new 2.2 iPhone software also offers the ability to share locations by e-mail.
Additionally, podcasts now can be downloaded through iTunes, Apple said.
