Rivermine has inked a deal with ReCellular to provide its customers as a way to recycle and refurbish
its old wireless handsets.
Rivermine says it serves 254 corporate and enterprise customers, which include many Fortune 1000
corporations and some government agencies.
For its part, ReCellular has been in the business of recycling wireless devices since 1991, and has recycling
partnerships with industry trade association CTIA, Verizon Wireless, AT&T Mobility and Sprint Nextel.
Additionally, ReCellular has also signed a deal with Tangoe, a company that specializes in providing
wireless telecommunication lifecycle solutions to businesses.
Jim Carroll, an executive vice president at Rivermine, said on average that the company’s customers have
between 4,500 to 5,000 mobile devices spread among their workforce. Clients of the company include Grant Thornton,
IKON Office Solutions and the U.S. Postal Service.
The deal with Rivermine provides ReCellular direct contact with corporate customers that have large wireless accounts.
Suman Dutta, ReCellular vice president says “our goal as a company is to recycle as many wireless phones as
possible. We want to work closer with companies, so we are partnering with the leader in the managed wireless space.”
Carroll added “we have clients that have closets full of old mobile phones that have been boxed up. They really
don’t know what to do with them.”
Rivermine manages wireline and wireless spending for these companies. Rivermine will order, manage inventory,
audit and now has a secure way to recycle handsets that corporations no longer need.
Partnering with ReCellular addresses two direct issues for corporations interested in getting rid of their
old communication devices. The first is companies can get rid of their units in a way that is friendly to the
environment.
The second issue, and also one of the most important, is clearing devices of sensitive corporate information,
a bit like when a company needs to dispose of its old computers.
Carroll said “everyone is green conscious right now. ReCellular has been doing something for a very long time
that is now in the spotlight more than ever.”
