Nokia says it is fighting back at Apple, Research In Motion and Palm with its own smartphones and now a new
Internet services platform called Ovi.
Nokia's new platform will allow consumers to buy digital content, such as music and videos, get maps
to help navigation and manage contacts and photos while online.
Nokia's new Ovi store is now up and running in eight countries: Australia, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Russia,
Singapore, Spain, and the United Kingdom. As of May 2009, Ovi was available on an estimated 50 million Nokia
devices across more than 50 Nokia phone models, including the flagship Nokia N-97.
In available countries, customers can access the Ovi Store by selecting the Ovi Store icon in the Download
folder on their wireless device.
The new mobile client is available in English, German, Italian, Russian, and Spanish.
But Nokia was quick to point out that its new Ovi store still isn't available on AT&T's network.
Last May, Nokia said that AT&T plans to make its Ovi Store available to its customers in the U.S. later this
year.
However, the company wouldn't provide any specifics other than to say that it should be available
on the AT&T network some time in December.
