Building on a five-year agreement announced in mid-August to become the official wireless service provider of the National Football League, Sprint Nextel Corp. launched its NFL Mobile service, providing customers with access to exclusive NFL content and original programming from their wireless handsets.

Sprint Nextel said the NFL Mobile package includes the NFL Network television channel; NFL Films, which provides exclusive video- and audio-on-demand highlights; up-to-the-minute scores, statistics and injury reports; NFL Fantasy, which includes content from Hollywood Fantasy League; and the ability to purchase NFL-related items through the NFL Store.

Users also can sign up to receive text-message alerts for NFL-related news and scores.

"The sponsorship takes our support of the game to the next level for customers, driving original and exclusive content directly to the third screen in their lives-one device they carry everyday-their wireless phone," said Steve Gaffney, director of sports marketing for Sprint Nextel.

The NFL Mobile service is available to both CDMA and iDEN customers for $6 per month, though the NFL Network television channel is available only on select CDMA handsets compatible with the carrier's various live television services.
