Samsung and Verizon Wireless launched the SCH-A 950 handset, a music-centric phone that includes an MP3 player and dual stereo speakers.

The phone accommodates a TransFlash memory card that fits into the handset's expandable memory slot for storing songs.

Phone users can press the 'play' key on the front of the phone to activate the music player, and other keys allow users to scroll through music selections as well as stop, start and skip.

The handset also features Verizon's Vcast video service and includes a 1.3 megapixel digital camera and camcorder.

The phone is available for $150 after a $100 mail-in rebate and a two-year contract.

In other handset news, Boost Mobile introduced four new phone models this month aimed at students. The phone line-up includes:

--- A custom-designed Motorola i833 designed by Kimora Lee Simons. The phone includes a pink quilted surface with diamond accents, a Baby Phat carry pouch and dangle, and Kimora's signature. The phone is available online for $250 after a $50 mail-in rebate.

--- A jet black Motorola i835 that includes a V-card that allows users to share contact information with friends using the Boost Walkie-Talkie feature, and My Pictures that allows users to store and forward pictures received via multimedia messaging. The handset comes pre-loaded with several Java games, wallpapers, GPS navigation and on-demand multimedia services, and polyphonic and voice ringtones. The phone is available online and at retail stores for $175.

--- The Motorola i415 and i450, which both include large color screens, V-Card, Java-enabled games and applications, hands-free speakerphone, picture viewer, multimedia and text messaging, and polyphonic and voice ringtones. The phones are priced at less than $100 and are available at retailers.
