Yesterday, Verizon Wireless announced that it is easing some of its contract extension rules.

The carrier will now allow customers to change plans without requiring contract modifications.

Beginning next week, new and existing wireless customers will have the option to change their voice and data calling plans, without extending the end date of their contract.

Verizon's new policy will become part of the company's customer promise, the Verizon Wireless Worry Free Guarantee.

Jack Plating, executive v.p. and COO of Verizon Wireless said "Verizon Wireless once again demonstrates that our number one priority is delivering the most customer-friendly wireless experience in the U.S. marketplace."

Verizon's Worry Free Guarantee also will now include the company's Test Drive offer, which allows new customers to try out Verizon's wireless network for 30 days.

The Worry Free Guarantee also promises full responsibility for any customer issues and a free phone every two years.

In addition to the Worry Free Guarantee, Verizon Wireless also offers additional benefits to customers who register for the company's "My Account Advantage" online program, including backup assistance, so users don't have to worry about losing a phone's contact list, annual handset upgrades and Minute Check.

Verizon's Minute Check is a new service that notifies customers when they are about to go over their monthly allotted minutes.
